Beijing Olympics Celebration - 2004

Goodbye Athens, hello Beijing! In preparation for the 2008 Olympics, we had a Chinese dinner to showcase Beijing's culinary delights.

We taught the kids to use chopsticks (to a certain degree anyway) and they enjoyed this meal:

Hot and Sour Soup
Spring Vegetables with Herbed Butter
Chicken and Asparagus Stir Fry
Fresh Rice Noodle with Beef
Fried Rice
Lemon Sorbet and Fortune Cookies

Looking forward to the 2008 Olympics!

Greek Olympics Celebration - 2004

Opa!

This year the Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, site of the first Olympics. We had a great dinner and celebrated Greece and Greek traditions.

We had some great Greek food -

We started out toasting with Ouzo (what Greek dinner would be complete without that?!).

Then we had a Greek salad, with lots of fresh tomatoes and olives. Then came lemon-egg soup, Souvlaki, pita bread, fiery feta cheese spread, cheese pies and rice pilaf. And finally, baklava!

After dinner, we all took our plates (specially purchased for the occasion) and threw them into our (temporary) "Greek" fireplace in the backyard! Opa!! We all had a great time with this dinner - and later Erik and I took the pieces of broken plate and made a mosaic to remind us of the festivities!
